About Cabela’s
Cabela’s is a sporting goods chain that specializes in outdoor recreation gear. Richard N. Cabela founded Cabela’s in 1961 as a mail order store that allowed shoppers to buy fishing supplies. He bought fishing flies in Chicago and advertised the gear for sale in the local paper. As a way to reach more shoppers, Cabela listed ads in a national magazine, which showed him there was a need for a mail-order fishing supply company.
